Nature
Koivu and Kuusi Eräkeskus is located in Tammela, near the Liesjärvi and Torronsuo National Parks.
The center is a former forestry school, where forest technology training began in 1961. The surrounding forests were converted into practice areas, and the center’s grounds still feature trees planted by various student cohorts. Over the decades, the school trained both forestry supervisors and loggers.
With new ownership, the focus is shifting towards accommodating and training Ukrainians, as well as promoting wellness tourism. The nearby national parks, forest nature, and wellness tourism provide a foundation for the center's tourism services. The lake, forests, northern exoticism, and the peace of nature are key attractions as new service offerings are developed.
Adjacent to the center is Kettumäki, Liesjärvi’s “fitness trail,” set in stunning and rugged terrain. The Ilves Trail passes nearby, offering excellent hiking opportunities, and also leads into Liesjärvi National Park.
A private canoe launch provides access to the calm waters of Liesjärvi, extending all the way to the national park. Paddling around the entire lake covers approximately 20 kilometers. From Liesjärvi, near Metsäkouluntie, begins the Turpoo River. Its upper course is rapid, while the lower course meanders through fields and wilderness. The Turpoo River is about 10 kilometers long in total. The river is usually at its best in May and June but may dry up towards the end of summer, making paddling difficult. Guided canoe trips, canoe rentals, and return transportation can be arranged through our partner Erärenki.
The Häme lake highlands offer numerous nature destinations, easily accessible via Metsäkouluntie. In addition to Liesjärvi and Torronsuo National Parks, popular spots include Saaren kansanpuisto, Melkuttimet (Iso-Melkutin), and the Pääjärvi recreational area.
