Nature
Koivu ja Kuusi Wilderness Center is located in Tammela on a forested 8.5-hectare estate, nestled between Liesjärvi and Torronsuo National Parks.
The center is a former forestry school where forest management training began in 1961, and the surrounding woodland was developed into practical training forest. Tree species planted by successive student year groups are still visible around the grounds today. This history remains present in the landscape — and now serves as a new kind of training terrain.
The estate itself provides an immediate training environment, with nearby forests extending the possibilities further. Close by is Kettumäki — Liesjärvi's scenic "fitness trail loop" through impressive terrain — and the Ilvesreitti hiking trail runs alongside, offering excellent trekking and a route directly into Liesjärvi National Park.
The center has its own private beach, with direct access to Lake Liesjärvi — whose calm waters offer a paddling route all the way to the national park, with a full lake circuit of approximately 20 km. The nearby Turpoonjoki river provides a wilder, more remote paddling experience with rapids. Guided canoe trips, equipment rental and return transfers are available through our partners Somaluonto and Erärenki.
Shooting ranges complement the training opportunities in the area: the Liesjärvi range is just 5.7 km away, approximately 8 minutes by car.
The Häme Uplands offer numerous natural attractions easily reached along Metsäkouluntie. In addition to Liesjärvi and Torronsuo National Parks, popular destinations include Saaren Kansanpuisto, Melkuttimet (Iso-Melkutin), Pääjärvi Recreation Area, Peukalolammi with its campfire shelters, and a variety of canoe routes.
